Applying for a job

Note (replacing hand shake)

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Mar 6, 2020 - Social media is here for the elbow bump trend, and so are top health officials. ... use an approriate greeting if a handshake is not acceptable.

bump

One of the hardest things you will ever do is applying for a job (see how to make a resume) irrespective what trade or career you're hoping to obtain, the first thing you need to do is make the employer want to employ you and want to interview you.

If you can get an interview then you should be able to convince the employer to take you on. To do this research your prospective employer, find out as much as you can about the company and the job vacancy.

List the expected criteria and then go through each section and provide a suitable response.

Your application should be written on the same lines as the company requests but do think outside of the box and add something that would make them more than interested in talking to you.

Think outside the box when you write your letter of application, when I was a student doing a graduate diploma I attended a seminar by school principals, so I made up a letter as a scroll, stating a mature age student was completing a double major and would be a tremendous asset to any school, I put inside the scroll a mini Crunchie bar and gave each school principal a scroll saying thank you for the seminar and here is my thank you letter.

scrol

I was told by one principal that what I did was not acceptable but later I did get two job offers from my endeavour, ensuring that I had a teaching job before I finished university.  I started at my new school at the commencement of the new term.

As mentioned I have done this (been expansive) on several occasions and worked on movie shoots, Hotel management, Office management and other stuff that I've had through all the jobs I've had in my life, most of which I was totally unsuited to obtain.

When you get to the interview dress appropriately and be polite smile and make eye contact as often as possible don't forget to shake hands but this time do not kiss the cheek of any ladies. You need to act confidently and present yourself as though you know what is required to do this, the golden rule is to find out as much as you can about the company and the people you are meeting at the interview just to give you an idea of what they I'm going to be like, the more knowledge you have about the company the better chance you have securing a job. Also ask yourself the sort of questions that they might as like "why do you think you are suitable for this position?"

When you get your first job go to and buy a packet of mixed biscuits and also a selection of lollies I usually take Minties, Fantales and other lollies in wrappers, these I put in a small dish on my desk so if anyone comes to talk to me they know they can take a lolly and exchange information,  the biscuits you can invite someone for a coffee or you go to coffee you can take the biscuits and offer them around and anyway there are times in the day you'll get hungry (miss lunch) and do not wish to go rushing outside so you stay at your desk and  eat a biscuit.

Be polite always treat people with respect and be as polite and nice to them as you can, you may not always feel that they reciprocate but it will always work in your favour if you're always a fairly nice person.

Also you should use good manners, open doors for others give up your seat for older people and smile and always have a nice thing to say. No one likes a Grinch.

Just remember things could be worse

You wake up face down on the pavement,

You put your bra on backwards and it fits better.

You call suicide prevention and they put you on hold.

You see a "60 minutes" news team waiting in your office.

Your birthday cake collapses from the weight of the candles,

candles

You want to put on the clothes you wore home from the party and there aren't any,

You turn on the news and they're showing emergency routes out of the city.

Your twin sister forgot your birthday,

You wake up and discover your waterbed broke and then realise that you don't have a waterbed,

Your car horn goes off accidentally and 'remains stuck as you follow a group of hell's angels on the freeway,

hells_angels

Your wife wakes up feeling amorous and you have a headache

Your boss tells you not to bother to take off your coat.

The bird singing outside your window is a buzzard,

You walk to work and find your dress is stuck in the back of your pantyhose,

You call your answering service and they tell you it's none of your business,

Your blind date turns out to be your ex-wife.

Your income tax cheque bounces,

You put both contact lenses in the same eye,

Your pet rock snaps at you

Its all about YOU

1. The most important person is you, at no point is anyone as important because only you can control your destiny.

2. Give your undivided attention when talking to and when listening to other people.

3. Never assume that you know more than the other person, you may be surprised at how much they actually know.

4. Avoid (Schadenfreude*) (I call this "shady friend" it actually means "harm joy" German.) is when we laugh at someone else's misfortune, so don't be Immature - think how would you feel if you were the one that tripped and stumbled? Empathy* is a much better option. I was walking talking to a teacher when I walked into a post, all the kids laughed but I didn't and none of them became my friends after that. (A great way to find out who your real friends are)

*Schadenfreude is the experience of pleasure, joy, or self-satisfaction that comes from learning of or witnessing the troubles, failures, or humiliation of another.

*Empathy definitions encompass a broad range of emotional states, including caring for other people and having a desire to help them; experiencing emotions that match another person's emotions; discerning what another person is thinking or feeling; and making less distinct the differences between the self and the other.

5. Never allow the arrogance of knowing stop your ability to be polite.

6. Of all the people that have walked past me in the street, by a quirk of coincidence many of them could have become my best friend. That's why I smile and wish them good day. (Do you know you will probably only have 3 absolute best friends in your life!)

7. I was wrong once but it was a mistake.

8. Never underestimate the power of simple people, especially when trying to enter a night club, a simple person in a position of power is a dangerous situation.

9. If you lack confidence start doing small projects that you know about and then do them to perfection, after that move on to the next project.

10. You are only on this earth once so make the most of it.

11. If you are given a second chance make sure it is the last one that you need. (ever).

12. Admire the people that you like but respect those that you do not, even if they are contrary to you, they still have something to offer.  You can learn something from everyone; my brain is like a parachute it works better when it is open.

13. If you wish to broaden your horizons you must first cross a street. If you can still see the shoreline go further.

14. A star points in every direction become a star and shine on everyone.

15. Don't make life so difficult, imaging getting backwards into a car with an open umbrella, isn't it easier to go forwards with a rolled umbrella.

16. We are all born ignorant, to remain so takes no effort, to develop ignorance is a skill we should avoid at all costs so at every opportunity learn something, because knowledge is free.

17. I was thick once but I'm better now!

18. There is nothing more frightening that the silence of a lonely house

19. Taking drugs is like swimming in a dirty sink, as the water empties the spiral gets faster and is invariably going down. Don't be a sucker.

The Way of love by me

There is always going to be someone for you to love, somewhere you will find that person, if you live and work in Leeds you will have 98% of finding someone to love, if you move to Sydney you will most likely find someone and if you live in and work in Auckland expect the same, you will fall in love at least twice in you life. Only you can survive emotional disasters, there is always a future.

Wedding Speech:

You can steal, lie and cheat because - you can Steal my heart, lie next to me all your life and cheat death and illness forever.

world

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving and revolving at 900 miles an hour. It's orbiting at 19 miles a second, so it's reckoned, the sun that is the source of all our power. Now the sun, and you and me, and all the stars that we can see, Are moving at a million miles a day, In the outer spiral arm, at 40, 000 miles an hour, of a galaxy we call the Milky Way.

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars; It's a hundred thousand light-years side to side; It bulges in the middle sixteen thousand light-years thick, But out by us it's just three thousand light-years wide. We're thirty thousand light-years from Galactic Central Point, We go 'round every two hundred million years; and our galaxy itself is one of millions of billions

In this amazing and expanding universe. Our universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding, In all of the directions it can whiz; As fast as it can go, at the speed of light, you know, Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is.

So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure, How amazingly unlikely is your birth; and pray that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space, 'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth!

Safe words for danger

Sometimes when you are out and about you need to communicate with your partners, kids or grand kids that things are not quite right and you need to evacuate the place as soon as possible. We have secret words that we use when we feel danger or feel unhappy with what is happening at the restaurant, function or venue. "Cheese it!" or just "Cheese!" has been a cry of warning among criminals (and juvenile delinquents) since at least the early 19th century. The word we use are ones that would not be used in normal conversation so we chose the name of Bognor Regis Butlins, so if one of us says something like "this place is not as nice as Bognor" then we trigger that something is not quite right, if the conversation or phone call states the word Bognor and Regis we know it is time to leave. This we do without question, we pay our bill and leave or just leave. If the message containing Bognor Regis Butlins we leave as quickly as possible because that is our maximum danger sentence.

Have a cigarette or have $10,000

When offered a cigarette you might wish to refuse you have to understand why people offer you cigarettes in the first place it's probably because they feel guilty about themselves smoking. They wish to use you to support their insecurity the way I answered an answer this question was no thank you I've been promised $10,000 if I don't smoke

and then they would ask how would that be, so I explain that if a packet of cigarettes cost $25 a week and I started smoking spending $25 a week then I will be wasting the money in smoke, damaging my health, and also having smelly clothes and bad breath; but if I put the $25 a week away for a year I have $1,250 and If I don't smoke for 10 years I have $12,500 less the cost of extra health bills, so as a  conservative suggestion I would say I will give  myself $10,000 simply because I don't accept that cigarette.

Take Drugs or have $20,000 in 5 years

drain

If I don't accept that pill or joint either, I would tell myself that in a few years time I will have a gift of $20,000. Based on the scenario for smoking.

I tell people I'm very capable of my own ability to enjoy myself without any other props or needs to get me go through the night and I'm sure that if I started on the drugs I'd be a lot worse off than the $20,000 dollars I'm about to receive in a few years time, and the heath bills and impact on my life will be horrendous if I take drugs, and  I don't need to do anything other than rely on my own ability to to enjoy myself..... so no thanks.

Be a millionaire by the time you are 40

It is always possible to become millionaire by the time you're 40 you buy cheap small house near to a university college or hospital, and you should be able to rent that out and receive an income to cover the mortgage of your purchase,  say your mortgage is $1000 a month you should work out you need to get 80% to 90% of this in rent (the actual return need to be about 70%), that way you will be purchasing a house for the difference between your rental income and the mortgage repayments.

A few months down the track you could use that house as collateral to purchase another house and then repeat the same scenario for the next few years by the time you're 30 you should aim to have three houses by the time you're 40 you should aim to our four houses and if you got four houses you should have close on $1 million in collateral, but of course it all depends on how well you look after your houses if and when you get good resale price for them. You need to get regular rent for the properties that is why they should be near a university, college or hospital, live in one bedroom for yourself and you should make some money. There are other ways but at least this is an idea.

Greeting people

handshake

Because of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), (2020) it may be more appropriate to elbow tap rather than shake hands

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Mar 6, 2020 - Social media is here for the elbow bump trend, and so are top health officials. ... And so far, elbow bumps seem to be catching on as the go-to greeting. ... all over the world of people doing the foot taps and elbow bumps

The first rule of meeting people is never disrespect the intellectually disadvantaged, especially when you feel that you are in a position of authority, be nice, smile, be polite to everyone, the bar staff, wait persons, door men or bouncers and you will usually get better service, do not use a superior attitude it will work against you. You may even get served first!

When meeting people for the first time it's important to remember their names so when you meet somebody repeat their name to yourself three times and then try to associate then name with something familiar. Then you will be able to recall their name and recognise them as being important. For instance on the golf course when you're introduced to your other players that you've not met before you would shake hands and say to yourself the names of the people your meeting and immediately use their names when replying to them thank you John thank you Dave welcome Fred.

When meeting people for the first time you should always shake their hand or elbow bump, and if it's a lady you have met before then you should offer to kiss their right cheek and the lady should offer their cheek to be kissed.  If you have not met the lady before a simple handshake is acceptable, this is standard welcome procedure and even if you do not know the people your meeting it is wise to offer your hand in a gesture of friendship. see Coronavirus (COVID-19) guidelines.

When people shake hands they are showing they have no weapons or offer any threat to the person. Meeting this way is a traditional that has happened over the years however it depends upon the person you are meeting for instance some other people from other countries have a different way of greeting so you must be aware of the traditions of people that you might meet for instance Japanese, Eskimos or Islamic people.

The people you meeting on the most important people at that particular time in your life.

Make other feel important, try always to dictate the conversation towards what these people are about, try not to talk about yourself too much but make them feel that they are the point of the conversation.

When you meet people for the first time you must always assume that they have no colour that they are neutral in everything they do and you must make your own decision as to what sort of person they may be always send people to be at zero and then assess them either as a positive or negative this way you can form a judgment without bias and always look at the person smile and try to make eye contact in general conversation you should generally look at the persons upper lip or nose.

Starting a conversation with a stranger or strangers can difficult

Conversation Starters

some of the things you need to do is have starter lines they break the ice

so how did you two meet,

is this your first time at this event,

what was the best movie you ever saw

what was the worst movie you ever saw

which was your best ever birthday
where were you born

do you prefer old music to this modern music which era of music did you like the best.

avoid warning

Remember when greeting people from other countries the technique may be different to an English greeting,

When greeting someone new, always start with a firm handshake and say, "How do you do". This is not a question, therefore expect the same response back. Another appropriate greeting is to say, "Hello, I am __________. It's a pleasure to meet you."

The British place considerable value on punctuality, and you should aim to arrive at the exact time suggested or a few minutes early. If invited to a home for dinner, a gift for the host is considered respectful. This is usually flowers or chocolates.

I often avoid such openings as What's up? / What's new?

This is a common, informal way of say "hi" and "how are you." For "what's up?" - in pronunciation and informal spelling (for example in texting or an informal email between friends, you might hear/see: Sup / Whassup / Whazzup Common answers include:

Not much.

Nothing.

Hey, what's up. (coming back at you)

I usually start with Hi, what do you know?

Yes, a bit spiky but it sets the trend that you wish to engage in conversation and avoid the negatives  like - Not much etc.

Because after "not much" it would require another opening statement to continue a conversation so avoid what's up whenever you can, UNLESS you wish the exchange to be as short as possible. Other short starters include...

How's it going? / What's going on? / How's everything?

These can all be simple greetings or questions similar to "How are you?" Careful! Similar to the informal situations above, the answer to these questions should usually be a simple answer. Example answers include:

Good, you?

Fine, you?

Not bad

Other people to greet

Japanese

When dealing with non-Japanese people, many Japanese will shake hands. Since many non-Japanese are familiar with the custom of bowing, this often leads to a combined bow and handshake which can become complicated. Bows may be combined with handshakes or performed before or after shaking hands.

Thai

The Thai greeting referred to as the wai consists of a slight bow, with the palms pressed together in a prayer-like fashion. ... The wai is traditionally observed upon formally entering a house.

French

Kiss the cheek on their right - your left - which is the one most commonly kissed. If you are the one being kissed, offer your right cheek automatically. In most cases, men and women or women and women cheek kiss. Men hug or extend a hand to shake with other men.

Asians

Bows are the traditional greeting in East Asia, particularly in Japan, Korea, China, and Vietnam. In China, and Vietnam, shaking hands or a slight bow have become more popular than a full bow. However, bowing is not reserved only for greetings. Bowing is a gesture of respect.

1. Use a budgeting tool Step one in reducing spending is to see what you're actually spending your money on. That way you know what changes you can make to stay on budget. Download a budgeting tool such as Money Smart to plan a budget according to your income and expenditure.

6. Buy second hand books Websites such as www.studentvip.com.au is a good way to buy and sell second-hand textbooks. It's advisable to start looking for your books a few weeks before the term starts as stocks are limited. Alternatively, if you have friends from the same course, you could ask them if they would like to share the textbook with you. This not only saves money but also enables you to have a study buddy

If I had a star for every time your smile has cheered me up, I'd be holding the night sky in the palm of my hand

A friend is someone who knows all there is to know about you, and loves you anyway.

I guarantee we'll have tough times and I guarantee that at some point one or both of us will want to get out of this but I also guarantee that if I don't ask you to be mine I'll regret it for the rest of my life because I know in my heart you're the only one for me.

The skies may fall, the stars may too,but in the end,I'll still love you

Don't know what I'd do without you don't know where I'd be your'e not just another boy..your'e everything to me

When I drop a tear into the ocean, the day I find it is the day I'll stop loving you

Everyone says you only fall in love once, but I don't agree, because everytime I hear your name I fall in love all over again

It hurts to breathe because everytime I do, I prove I can live without you

Sometimes I wonder if life is worth living then I see your smile and I know it is

Whenever I'm down, you always make me smile, Whenever I need someone to talk to, I know you'll talk for a while, Whenever I'm upset, I know you care cuz everytime I'm lonely, you always seem to be there.

I love your eyes and I love your smile; The way it makes me feel for just a little while, I love your style and all the things that you do...what can I say I guess that I love you.

If I could be an angel I'd make your every wish come true but I am only human, Just a girl who is loving you

*I* luv u alwayz these words r tru
*Sleep* is sweet when i dream of u

If he's the first thing you think of when you wake up, the only thing you think of when you're awake, and the last thing you think of before you go to bed then he's really something special.

Missing someone gets easier everyday, because even though its one day further from the last time you saw each other, it is one day closer to the next time you will

"There is no greater happiness than having you...
and no greater bliss than sharing this life with you.
If I had one breath to spare...If I had just one moment to live...
I would be spending it with you."

I've always wanted a world of my own were I can do whatever I want, where I could live alone,

but then I found you, now I want to have world shared by us two, a paradise shared with you...

I never know what the future brings; But I know you are here with me now and we'll make it through and I hope you are the one I share my life with.

If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together.. there is something you must always remember, you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think, but the most important thing is, even if we're apart.. I'll always be with you.

Some love one, some love two. I love one, and that is you.

If you live to be 100, I hope I live to be 100 minus 1 day, so I never have to live without you.

If there ever comes a day when we can't be together, keep me in your heart, I'll stay there forever
